Paarl Girls Hoërskool, where the school's own description says it's "co-educational" and has "no boarding facilities," but the actual data says girls only with boarding. So they cannot even describe themselves correctly. Imagine paying R48,748 for Grade 12 and the school does not know what school it is. That is not a description, that is a cry for help. Speaking of R48,748, that is almost fifty thousand rand to go to a public school in Paarl. Not Constantia. Not Bishopscourt. Paarl. Where the wind comes down from the mountain and hits you so hard your blazer becomes a parachute. You are paying private school money to stand in a queue at a tuck shop that probably still sells those flat lollipops from 2009. 1,020 girls, 67 teachers, and a ratio of 15.2 to 1. That sounds manageable until you remember this is a combined school, meaning you have got Grade R babies and matric students sharing the same campus. The little ones are learning to count and the big ones are counting down the days to Matric Rage in Plettenberg Bay. And somewhere in the middle, a teacher is trying to explain CAPS to both groups simultaneously while load shedding kicks in and nobody can find the whiteboard markers anyway. Overall verdict: Paarl Girls is clearly a school with real heart and a strong community behind it, but somebody needs to sit their communications department down and make them write their own description again from scratch.
