Okay so L.K. Zeeman in Paarl, combining primary AND high school under one roof like a Pick n Pay that also sells tyres. Ag shame, 828 kids and only 31 teachers trying to hold it together. That is a 26.7 to 1 ratio, which means your teacher is basically a taxi driver at peak hour on the N1, everyone is packed in, nobody is comfortable, and someone in the back is definitely eating a gatsby. Now the description says they offer education "under the NSC/CAPS curriculum" like that is something to brag about. Bru, everyone uses CAPS. That is like a restaurant putting on the menu "we use pots." And then you see the matric pass rate sitting at a humble 33.3 percent. One in three, chommie. You had a better chance passing if you just flipped a coin and guessed. The Paarl mountain is right there watching this happen and even it is shaking its head slowly. But listen, the school is no-fee, which means the government is footing the bill, which means somewhere in Cape Town a WCED official signed a paper and forgot about it. At least the kids are not paying for this experience. That is genuinely something. No fees, no boarding, no frills, just vibes and the hope that load shedding does not hit during the exam. Overall verdict: L.K. Zeeman is the school equivalent of a braai where the fire will not start, but someone brought enough boerewors to make it worth staying.
