York High School (George)

Okay so York High in George. George. Not Cape Town, not Joburg, George. The place where people go when they want "a quieter life" and then realise the quiet is just the sound of nothing happening. Over a thousand learners, 54 teachers, so your ratio is basically one teacher trying to manage a small township. That is 18.6 kids per educator, which means your teacher did not know your name until Grade 11 and even then they called you "the one who sits near the window." Now here is the best part. The school's own description says, and I am quoting this directly, "no boarding facilities." But the data says boarding: YES. So York High does not even know what York High is doing. The school wrote its own bio and got itself wrong. That is a matric fail in self-awareness. The WCED is shaking. But listen, a thousand learners in George with a boarding option is actually kind of solid. You are out of the Cape Town wind, away from the mountain, away from the Southern Suburbs moms in Range Rovers telling the principal how to run things. George is unpretentious, the school is big enough to get lost in but small enough that someone's cousin knows your business by Tuesday. Overall verdict: York High is the reliable family sedan of Western Cape schools, nothing flashy, occasionally confused about its own features, but it gets you where you need to go.
