Sambo Primary School in Steenbok, Mpumalanga. Steenbok. Not once, not twice, the address just says Steenbok, Steenbok, like even the post office gave up and said "you know what, just find it yourself, everyone there knows where it is." That is the kind of town where your GPS sighs and says "I tried." 214 learners and 13 teachers. Now 16.5 to 1 sounds fine on paper until you realise one of those teachers is definitely doing three jobs at once, taking register, teaching maths, AND sorting out the fight behind the prefab classroom. That half a learner in the ratio is probably a kid who only pitches up when the tuck shop is open. You know how it is. And listen, Sambo Primary. Sambo. Nobody sat in that naming meeting and said "wait, maybe reconsider." They just stamped it, filed it, moved on. The school has been carrying that name like a learner carries a report card they do not want to show their parents. With commitment and absolutely no eye contact. Overall verdict: Sambo Primary is a small school in a small town doing a big job with not enough hands, which honestly puts most fancy Cape Town schools with their "world class facilities" to shame, but somebody really needs to rename this place before the next school newsletter goes out.
