Suikerland Secondary School in Malelane, okay, so already the name is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Suikerland. Sugar Land. They named the school after sugar cane and somehow that energy carried straight into the matric results because 95.7% pass rate is genuinely sweet. Like embarrassingly sweet. Like you are making other schools look bad kind of sweet. But listen, 1631 learners and only 56 educators? That ratio is 29 to 1. One teacher, twenty-nine teenagers, in Mpumalanga heat, probably no air conditioning, and somehow this person is expected to educate, discipline, and survive until home time. That is not a classroom, that is a taxi rank with a whiteboard. The teacher is not teaching anymore, the teacher is just doing crowd control and hoping for the best. And Malelane, jy weet hoe is dit, you are deep in the lowveld, kruger park is your neighbour, the heat is unforgiving, and these kids are still out here pulling nearly 96% in matric. No fancy Constantia campus, no private school money, no gym with a smoothie bar, just sugar cane fields, determination, and apparently one educator per small village of learners, and they are still cooking. Overall verdict: Suikerland Secondary is a public school in the middle of nowhere that is quietly embarrassing private schools that charge forty grand a term, and honestly, respect.
