Lebohang Secondary School in Vanderbijlpark, where 33 teachers are somehow supposed to handle 1025 kids. That is not a school, that is a taxi rank with a timetable. One teacher to every 31 learners means your educator is basically just a suggestion at the front of the room. Sir is not teaching, Sir is managing chaos and praying load shedding kicks in early so everyone can go home. The matric pass rate is sitting at 79.4%, which is actually not bad considering each teacher has the energy of someone who has been on duty since 1994. But that still means roughly 1 in 5 kids did not make it through, and with classrooms that full, honestly, some of them probably just got lost in the crowd and nobody noticed until November. Vanderbijlpark is already doing its best out there in the Vaal, and the school is carrying a lot of that weight on 33 pairs of tired shoulders. The good news is it is a no-fee school, so at least nobody is getting robbed at the gate every January. That is genuinely something. The government is footing the bill, which means the tuck shop is probably the most profitable business on the premises and the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. Overall verdict: Lebohang is out here doing real work with real people and not a cent in fees, respect where it is due, but somebody needs to hire about twenty more teachers before those 33 legends collapse.
