Lamberts Bay High School (Lamberts Bay)

Lamberts Bay High School, where one teacher handles 30.5 kids at a time. That is not a classroom, that is a taxi rank with a whiteboard. Twenty four educators for 731 learners, someone at the WCED did that math and said "ja, that sounds fine" and went home. Your teacher is not ignoring you, they genuinely cannot see you from the front of the room. You are basically homeschooled but with more chaos. And that 75% matric pass rate, look, a quarter of the kids did not make it and we are going to pour one out for them. But also, Lamberts Bay, come on. This is a town that is more famous for its crayfish festival than its academic excellence. The learners are out there fighting the West Coast wind just to get to school in the morning, arriving looking like they just lost a argument with the Atlantic Ocean, and then someone expects them to sit down and do calculus. Seven hundred and thirty one kids in what I can only imagine is a building that smells like Tastic rice and mild regret. Lamberts Bay is beautiful, the ocean is right there, and these poor kids are stuck inside staring at a ratio that should be illegal. At least when the power goes out during load shedding you can all go sit on the beach. Overall verdict: Lamberts Bay High is basically a sardine tin with a curriculum, but those kids who do pass deserve a standing ovation because they earned it against genuinely ridiculous odds.
