You are literally a combined school, which means somewhere in that building a Grade 1 is walking past a matric doing finals and both of them are equally confused about what is happening. 784 kids, 25 teachers, a ratio of 31.4 to 1. That is not a classroom, that is a taxi rank with a whiteboard. One teacher is basically doing the work of a whole department, a guidance counsellor, and a substitute on the same Tuesday morning. But here is the thing that actually broke me. No boarding facilities. In Groot-Brakrivier. Bru, where would you even go after school? You are already in Groot-Brakrivier. There is nowhere to run. You just go home, stare at the Outeniqua mountains, and think about your life choices. And somehow, SOMEHOW, with 25 teachers splitting themselves like a packet of chips between 784 learners, this school pulled a 95.9% matric pass rate. That is not education, that is a miracle. The kind of miracle they talk about in church. Fair play though, Groot-Brak. You are a no-fee school in a small town doing better than some private schools charging R50k a year and offering "holistic development" and a swimming pool nobody uses. Overall verdict: Looks rough on paper, hits different in results, basically the Bafana Bafana of the Western Cape except they actually win.
