Okay so St Cyprian's Preparatory School in the City Bowl, charging R177,705 for Grade 12, and they still call themselves a "preparatory" school. Preparatory for what exactly? Preparing your parents to sell a kidney? Preparing them to remortgage the house? At R141,850 for Grade 7, your child is literally in primary school paying university fees. The audacity is immaculate. Very Christian of them. Speaking of Christian, nothing says "love thy neighbour" like charging nearly two hundred thousand rand a year per child. Jesus fed five thousand people with two fish and five loaves, but St Cyprian's will feed your daughter a tuck shop slaap chip and charge you R87k for the privilege of her being in Grade R. She cannot even read yet. She is colouring in. Now with 1168 girls and a 10.5 to 1 ratio, at least your child gets proper attention, which is good because she is going to need a strong support system when she grows up and realises the rest of the world does not run on R177k school fees and a City Bowl address. One day she will encounter a taxi rank and it will be a spiritual experience no amount of Christian ethos prepared her for. Overall verdict: Expensive, exclusive, and absolutely full of itself, but honestly if you can afford it, your daughter is getting a solid education and will probably end up running the company the rest of us apply to.
