Barkly West High School (Barkly Wes)

Barkly West High School, sitting in De Beershoogte like it's proud of that name. De Beershoogte. Someone looked at that location and said "ja, that's where we're building the school" and just kept moving. Northern Cape heat, 26 teachers, 767 kids, and a learner-to-educator ratio of 29.5 to 1. That means one teacher walks into a classroom and sees basically 30 people staring back at them. That's not a class, that's a taxi rank with a whiteboard. And then the school describes itself as an "intermediate school" in its own bio, which is genuinely the saddest thing you can call yourself. Not a high school. Not a college. Intermediate. Like when someone asks how you're doing and you say "fine." The description is so dry it reads like a CAPS document someone forgot to close. It also hits you with "it is not a no-fee school," which is a very formal way of saying "ja, bring the money, we're not playing." But listen, 93.5% matric pass rate in the Northern Cape heat with 30 kids per teacher is actually no joke. Those kids and teachers are putting in serious work out there in Barkly West while the rest of us are complaining about load shedding in our air-conditioned classrooms. Overall verdict: Dryer than the Karoo and twice as tough, Barkly West High is carrying real results with very little help, and that deserves some respect.
