Okay so Maruapula Secondary in Nyetse Village, Zeerust, listen. Nine educators. NINE. For 265 kids. That is not a staff, that is a WhatsApp group. One teacher is probably doing Maths, Life Orientation, Geography, and braai duty on the same Tuesday. The ratio is 29 kids per teacher and honestly that teacher deserves a government pension AND a Nando's gift card AND a long rest in Hartenbos. But here is the part that makes you want to sit down slowly. This school, with nine teachers, in a village outside Zeerust, no fees, no boarding, nothing fancy, pulled a 97.1% matric pass rate. NINETY SEVEN POINT ONE. Private schools in the Southern Suburbs are charging parents a bond and a kidney and still sweating at 85%. Maruapula is out here in North West doing things with basically nothing and making the rest of South Africa look like they need to think about their life choices. The description says "does not offer boarding facilities" like that was even a conversation. Bro. There are nine teachers. There is no boarding. There is just results, dignity, and clearly at least one absolutely legendary educator holding this whole thing together with determination and probably very strong tea. Overall verdict: Maruapula looks like nothing on paper and then casually humiliates schools with swimming pools and full tuck shops, which honestly is the most South African power move possible.
