Okay so Mogale Secondary School in Skoolplaas Bapong, Brits. First of all, the address alone is doing the most. Skoolplaas. The place is literally called School Place. No mystery, no branding, no vision statement. Just "ja, this is where the school is." You have to respect the honesty, even if the North West Department of Education could not be bothered to try harder than that. Now, 29 teachers for 775 learners. That is a ratio of nearly 27 kids per teacher. One teacher, 27 teenagers, one whiteboard, and the dream of a peaceful Friday afternoon. That poor educator is not teaching, they are crowd control. Jy weet hoe is dit. Someone in the back is definitely eating chips, someone else is sleeping, and the teacher has just accepted it. They are surviving, not thriving, and honestly same. But here is the thing. No fees, 81% matric pass rate, in Brits, with that ratio, and those resources. That is not embarrassing, that is actually kind of impressive. Those kids and teachers are getting results with basically nothing, while some R50 000 a year school in the Southern Suburbs is buying new tennis courts and still producing mediocre matrics. Overall verdict: Mogale Secondary is running a marathon in takkies with a hole in the sole, and still crossing the finish line ahead of some schools with sponsorship deals, which is genuinely mad respect.
