The name alone sounds like a place you pass through on the way to somewhere better, and yet here we are, 1560 kids showing up every morning like it's their idea. 1560 learners. Sê wat? That is not a school, that is a taxi rank with homework. You have got more kids than some small towns have people, and you thought 49 teachers was going to cover it. 49. Boet, that is a ratio of almost 32 kids per teacher. One teacher, 32 kids, one whiteboard, and load shedding hits at 8am. The teacher is not teaching at that point, the teacher is surviving. Jy weet hoe is dit. And the name, Westgold. Westgold. They really looked at Randfontein, which literally has "Rand" in the name from the gold mining days, and said let us name this school like it is a luxury estate in a Monopoly game nobody wanted to play. There is no gold here, there is just a register that takes 20 minutes to call out and a tuck shop that runs out of vetkoek by first break because there are 1560 hungry children. Overall verdict: Westgold is basically a small city that accidentally got a school built on it, but those kids from Randfontein are tough and they will outlast all of us.
