Okay so "Afrikaanse HoëR Meisieskool." First of all, the name says Meisieskool, which means girls school, but then the data says co-educational. So which is it? Are the boys allowed in or not? Someone in admin clearly had a whole meeting about this and still walked out confused. Very on brand for a school that probably still has a notice board with announcements from 2019 stapled to it. 1295 learners and 75 educators. That ratio of 17.3 to 1 sounds fine until you realise that means one teacher is standing in front of basically a small taxi rank of teenagers every single period. Sir is trying to explain quadratic equations while seventeen kids are having side conversations, two are eating chips, and one is just spiritually somewhere else entirely. The teacher did not sign up for this. The teacher signed up to teach Afrikaans literature and now they are basically a crowd control officer with a whiteboard marker. And look, this is Pretoria, which means it is hot, it is government, and everything runs on vibes and bureaucracy simultaneously. Public school in Gauteng means the WCED is not your problem but Limpopo is somehow still mentioned in every circular. The school is trying its best, the kids are trying their best, and the one educator covering three subjects is absolutely not getting paid enough. Overall verdict: A school with an identity crisis in its own name, a teacher-to-learner ratio that explains a lot, but clearly producing kids tough enough to survive Pretoria heat and a packed classroom, so respect where it is due.
