Okay so John Vorster in Nigel. NIGEL. Not Johannesburg, not Pretoria, not even Benoni which already feels like a consolation prize. Nigel. The town that Google Maps takes you to when it gives up on you. And they named the school after John Vorster, which is a choice. A very specific, very committed choice. Bold move, keeping that name on the gate in 2024. Very bold. But listen, a 100% matric pass rate? In Nigel? That is actually not a joke, that is impressive. Forty-one teachers holding down 786 learners at 19 kids per teacher, which means every single educator is basically running a small taxi with homework. No boarding facilities either, so these kids have to go home every day, back through Nigel, and somehow still came back the next morning and passed matric. That is resilience. That is character. That is probably also because there is genuinely nothing else to do in Nigel so you may as well study. The school description is so dry it reads like a terms and conditions page. "It is a fee-paying institution with no boarding facilities." That is it. That is the whole pitch. No vision statement, no Latin motto, no "nurturing tomorrow's leaders."
