Olievenhoutbosch Primary, where the government said "education is free" and then handed one teacher 35 kids and said "sharp, sort it out." Thirty five point four learners per educator. Point four of a child. Someone's kid is literally only 40% present and honestly with those numbers you cannot blame them. That teacher is not a teacher, that is a shepherd. A very tired shepherd in Centurion with no budget and a register that looks like a concert guest list. 1556 learners at a no-fee school, which sounds generous until you do the maths and realise there are 44 educators trying to contain what is essentially a small town. Olievenhoutbosch is already a place where things are lively, let us be honest, and now you have crammed one thousand five hundred and fifty six children into a primary school and told 44 people to handle it. Load shedding hits and what happens? 1556 kids in the dark with one torch between them and a teacher who has been awake since before Eskom was even a problem. To be fair though, if you survived this school you are built different. You learned to share, you learned patience, you learned how to exist in a crowd, and you probably learned to raise your hand very loudly because your teacher was dealing with 34 other situations simultaneously. That is not a classroom, that is life skills training. Overall verdict: Chaotic, overcrowded, and clearly underfunded by people who have never had to teach 35 kids at once, but the kids coming out of here are tougher than anyone from a school that charges R50k a year.
