Alberton High. Almost 1,220 kids and 62 teachers, which means your teacher is basically just a person standing in a room hoping someone brought a pen. A ratio of nearly 20 to 1 means your educator had seventeen other problems before they even got to you, and honestly, that tracks. You were not being taught, you were being managed. Like a taxi rank, but with a whiteboard. The school's own description is so dry it could only have been written during load shedding with no Wi-Fi and absolutely nothing to do. "A fee-paying institution with no boarding facilities." Bra. That is it. That is the whole personality. You pay R22,149 for Grade 12 and the best they could come up with is "we exist and you cannot sleep here." For that kind of money in Alberton you could have done something. Bought a lapa. Put up some fairy lights. Something. And Alberton itself, hey. Not Sandton. Not Rosebank. Alberton. The East Rand has a specific energy and Alberton High is right in the middle of it, which means everyone grew up tough, everyone knows someone with a bakkie, and matric rage was probably in Margate and absolutely got out of hand. No shade to the kids because they clearly survived something real every single day. Overall verdict: Alberton High is basically a government-funded hunger games with a CAPS curriculum, but somehow the kids who come out of there are built different, and that is genuinely not nothing.
