Ladybrand Academy, sitting there in the Free State like it owns the place. Ladybrand. Right on the border with Lesotho, which means when the wind blows it cannot decide if it wants to be South African or Basotho. But okay, fine, the school exists, we respect it. It is a combined school, meaning they threw the little ones and the big ones in together and said "sort it out amongst yourselves." Very Free State energy, that. Now listen, 597 learners and only 26 educators. That is a 23 to 1 ratio, which sounds fine until you realise one teacher is basically managing a small taxi rank every single period. Twenty three teenagers in one room, one teacher, Free State heat, no shade. That teacher deserves a bonus and a cold Black Label. The poor person is not teaching, they are surviving. But here is where we have to give credit where it is due because a 97.7% matric pass rate from a school in Ladybrand is genuinely no joke. That is not luck, that is teachers who actually showed up, kids who actually worked, and a school that clearly does something right even if we cannot fully explain it. Nearly every single matric student walked out with a pass. In this economy. In the Free State. Respect. Overall verdict: Ladybrand Academy is basically a diamond hiding in the dust of the Free State, the ratio is rough, the location is remote, but those results hit harder than a Free State thunderstorm.
