The school is free though, no fees, which means the government is funding this whole operation, and yet somehow they sent 19 teachers to handle 600 learners. Nineteen. Bru, that is not a staff room, that is a WhatsApp group. One teacher is basically handling 32 kids at a time, which means if you needed help in class you were statistically not getting it today. Maybe not tomorrow either. You were going to figure it out yourself or ask the kid next to you. And here is the part that makes you feel genuinely embarrassed for every expensive private school in the Southern Suburbs. This school, in a town most people cannot point to on a map, with no fees and 19 teachers and 600 learners crammed together, pulled a 98.2% matric pass rate. Ninety eight point two percent. Meanwhile some school in Constantia with a swimming pool and a "holistic learning philosophy" is out here sweating over their results like it is a personality test. Mount Fletcher said hold my umqombothi and carried the whole Eastern Cape on their back. Overall verdict: criminally under-resourced, suspiciously over-achieving, and honestly making the rest of South Africa look a little soft.
