Bulelani Primary School in King William's Town, where 8 teachers are out here trying to manage 216 kids like they are single-handedly running a taxi rank during peak hour. Twenty seven kids per teacher. Twenty seven. That is not a classroom, that is a music festival. One teacher probably has not learned half the kids' names yet and they are already writing exams. The school description they gave us is so dry it nearly put me to sleep. "Follows the national NSC/CAPS curriculum." Yoh. That is the school equivalent of someone asking you what you do for fun and you say "breathing." No boarding facilities either, which, fair enough, where would you even put them? Between which two of the 8 teachers? No fees though, and listen, that part is genuinely real. In the Eastern Cape, in King William's Town, getting 216 kids through the school gates every day with zero fees is not nothing. Those 8 teachers are basically superheroes without the capes, just chalk and a prayer and probably a classroom that gets dark at stage two load shedding same as everyone else. Overall verdict: Chaotic, stretched thin, and the school description reads like it was written during a power cut, but those 8 teachers carrying 216 kids on their backs deserve a braai in their honour.
