Riebeek College Girls High School (Kariega)

Okay so first things first, the school is called **Riebeek College GIRLS High School** but it is co-educational. Broer. You cannot just put "Girls" in the name and then let the boys rock up. That is not how naming works. Somewhere there is a Standard 6 boy in Kariega who has been explaining his school name at every braai for the last six years and nobody believes him. "No but it says girls?" Yes bru. Yes it does. And yet here we are. Now Jansensdal, Kariega, Eastern Cape. Not exactly the postal address you brag about on your university application, but listen, 744 learners and only 38 teachers means your ratio is nearly 20 to 1. That is not a classroom, that is a taxi. Standing room only, driver is doing his best, and someone in the back definitely has not done their homework. Those 38 educators are carrying the whole Eastern Cape on their backs and somehow still pulling a 97.7% matric pass rate, which is genuinely ridiculous and honestly embarrassing for schools charging three times the fees up in the Southern Suburbs. The school describes itself in its own words as a "fee-paying school" with no boarding facilities, which is just a fancy way of saying you pay, you stay at home, and you sort yourself out. Very Eastern Cape energy. Very "we build character here." **Overall verdict:** A confusingly named, overcrowded little school in Kariega that has absolutely no business posting a 97.7% pass rate, and yet there it is. Respect where respect is due, even if the name still makes no sense.
