Okay so Grey Boys High School. "Boys." In the name. Co-educational. I am going to let that sink in for a second. Someone clearly had a vision, and then life happened, and now here we are in Mill Park, Gqeberha, with a school that kept the old name like your uncle who still insists on calling it Port Elizabeth. The branding team has long gone home, broe. 893 learners, 58 educators, ratio of 15.4 to 1. That is actually not bad, that is almost respectable. Which is suspicious for a public school in the Eastern Cape because usually the WCED and its Eastern Cape cousin are not exactly handing out teachers like they hand out load shedding schedules. But fine, Grey, we see you, marginally staffed and functional, well done. Now that 100% matric pass rate. Okay. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. Either this school is genuinely producing legends, or someone in Gqeberha had a very motivational final term and told the Grade 12s that Matric rage in Plett is non-negotiable and failure is not an option. Whatever they are doing, it is working, even if the name of the school has not caught up with the fact that girls exist. Overall verdict: Grey Boys High School is a co-educational institution with a boys name, a suspiciously perfect pass rate, and an identity crisis that has been running since before PE became Gqeberha, but somehow it is actually doing the thing, respect where it is due.
