Combined school, co-ed, 882 learners and 34 teachers trying to hold it all together. That ratio is 25.9 to 1, bru. One teacher, twenty-six teenagers, one whiteboard and probably one working marker. That teacher is not teaching, that teacher is surviving. Jy weet hoe is dit. Now listen, 34 educators for 882 kids in a public school in the Eastern Cape is basically one adult at a braai trying to watch 26 toddlers near the pool. Someone is going in. The tuck shop lady probably knows more learners by name than half the staff do, and honestly she deserves a salary increase more than anyone. But here is the thing that kills the roast a little bit. A 94.7% matric pass rate from a public school in East London with that kind of ratio is genuinely impressive. Those teachers are working miracles with a photocopier that probably jams every Tuesday and a timetable built by someone who hates joy. The learners clearly showed up and put in the work. Overall verdict: West Bank High is basically a teacher running a marathon in slip slops and somehow still finishing in the top ten, give these people a bursary and a braai.
