IEB Matric Results 2025 | All Schools Ranked

Published: 26 February 2026β€’5 min readβ€’Last updated: 26 February 2026

Every January, the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) releases the NSC matric results for its member schools. Because virtually all IEB schools achieve a 100% pass rate, the metric that separates the best from the rest is distinctions per candidate (D/C) β€” the average number of A-symbols (80%+) each learner earns across their subjects.

The 2025 IEB results are in. Below are the 28 schools that published their full results, ranked by distinctions per candidate. Use the filters to explore by province, or jump to the city-by-city breakdown further down the page.

How to Read This Table

  • D/C (Distinctions per Candidate) β€” the number of A-symbols (80%+) earned divided by the number of candidates. This is the most useful comparison metric because nearly all IEB schools achieve 100% pass rates β€” so D/C tells you how many high distinctions the average student earns.
  • BDP (Bachelor's Degree Pass) β€” the percentage of candidates who qualified for direct university admission. A high BDP alongside a high D/C indicates consistent excellence across the class, not just a few star performers.
  • Pass Rate β€” included where published. A dash (β€”) means the school did not publish this figure.

Why Only 28 Schools?

The IEB has over 150 registered member schools, but only those that voluntarily publish their individual results are included here. The IEB releases a national summary; detailed per-school data depends on each school's own communications. This list will be updated as more schools release their figures.

IEB vs NSC β€” How Do They Compare?

IEB schools consistently outperform the national NSC average. In 2025, the IEB national pass rate was 98.82% versus the national NSC average of 87.3%, and the bachelor's degree pass rate was 80.05% versus the national 37.0%. This gap reflects both the socioeconomic profile of IEB schools and the rigour of the IEB assessment β€” which is widely regarded as more academically demanding than the DBE NSC.
