Setilo Secondary School, North West province, where one teacher is apparently responsible for 32 kids at a time. Thirty two. That is not a classroom, that is a taxi rank with a whiteboard. Imagine putting your hand up to ask a question and by the time the teacher gets to you, you have already graduated, started a business, and retired. Twenty seven educators for 864 learners, and they wrote that description like it was a LinkedIn post. "Follows the National Senior Certificate curriculum aligned to CAPS." Broe, every school in South Africa follows CAPS, that is not a selling point, that is just the law. But here is the thing that actually deserves respect. No fees, North West, 32 kids per teacher, and they still pulled a 93.9% matric pass rate. While private schools in the Southern Suburbs are charging your parents a bond repayment every month just for the privilege of a nice gate, Setilo is out here in the North West doing it for free and still cooking. The government writes one dry paragraph about them and they respond by passing almost everyone. Quiet confidence, different level. Overall verdict: Setilo looks like the underdog in every possible way on paper, but the results hit harder than a Joburg thunderstorm, and honestly, that teacher carrying 32 kids at a time deserves a statue.
